kasi

kasi refers to plants and things resembling plants. This includes trees, shrubs, herbs, cacti, vines, grasses, and more.

Some speakers will use kasi to refer to the edible leaves and stems rather than kili, like spinach, lettuce, and asparagus.

For some speakers, kasi includes fungi and mushrooms; they resemble plants in being immobile life forms that grow in many of the same conditions that plants do. To other speakers, fungi are vastly different from plants and don’t belong in the same conceptual category; these speakers often use soko to describe fungi instead.
